Privacy
The site asks for no details and runs analytics only if you accept them. The personal data we hold otherwise is what you choose to email us, and the ordinary logs a web server keeps.
Who is responsible
Tap Sorted publishes this website. For anything to do with your data, email hello@tapsorted.co.uk.
What we collect and why
| What | Why | Basis | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figures typed into the calculator, and chooser answers | To work out your totals and guidance | Not collected: processed in your browser and never sent to us | Not stored |
| Analytics: IP address, device and browser details, pages visited, and two events (“calculator used”, “fit guide used”) | To see how many people use the site and its tools | Your consent. Nothing loads unless you accept | Analytics cookies expire after at most 1 year; Google Analytics keeps event-level data for 2 months |
| Your analytics choice, saved in your browser’s local storage with its date | To remember your choice and ask again after 6 months | Necessary to honour your choice | 6 months. An expired record is deleted the next time you visit; you can also clear it by clearing your browser data |
| Email you send to hello@tapsorted.co.uk, including your address and what you write | To reply to your message and fix errors you report | Legitimate interests: answering enquiries about the site | 12 months after the last message, or longer only to resolve your query or meet a legal obligation |
| Server logs: IP address, time, page requested, browser type | Security and keeping the site running | Legitimate interests: security and reliability of the site | 7 days |
We don’t ask for health information, and the site has no accounts, newsletter sign-up or forms that send anything to us. The only thing saved in your browser is your analytics choice, in local storage, and Google’s cookies if you accept analytics.
Analytics (optional)
If you choose Accept analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to see whether the running-cost calculator and the fit guide are used. If you choose Reject analytics, or make no choice, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set.
- Google receives your IP address, device and browser details, the pages you visit, and the two events. It sets cookies whose names start with
_ga, which expire after at most 1 year. - Your name or email address, the figures you enter in the calculator and your fit-guide answers are not included in tool events. The part of each web address after “?” or “#”, and of the page you came from, is removed before it is sent.
- Google acts as a processor for this data. We have switched off Google signals and advertising features, and don’t use the data for advertising. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for 2 months.
- Your choice is remembered for 6 months; after that we ask again, and nothing loads from Google until you answer. You can change it at any time with Privacy settings in the footer. Withdrawing consent deletes the Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page.
Who else handles your data
- Google, for Google Analytics if you accept it.
- Migadu, which hosts the mailbox for hello@tapsorted.co.uk, and Google, because messages sent to that address are forwarded to a Gmail account.
- Our web hosting provider, which keeps the server logs.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Their own privacy policies explain how they protect it. We don’t sell personal data.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, restrict its use, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interests, by emailing hello@tapsorted.co.uk. Where it applies, you can also ask for your data in a portable format. You can withdraw your analytics consent at any time with Privacy settings in the footer; withdrawing doesn’t affect anything done before you withdrew. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
